November Happenings...

It has been awhile since my last post and a lot has happened over the last several weeks.

I definitely need to mention how excited I am to have my first niece. She is so adorable!!! My sister Christy and her husband Zach had their first baby girl on November 12th. She is such an adorable sweet spirit! I am so excited to be an aunt again and especially excited that I have a niece now.

Here are a couple pictures of my sister's baby, Anna (My sister, Andrea, took these pictures...she did a great job!).

Here is a picture of Anna and I a few days after she was born...

It's crazy to think that Thanksgiving has come and gone. Thanksgiving this year was so much fun. We were able to spend Thanksgiving Day with my Mom's side of the family and Friday with my Dad's side of the family. It was nice to be with everyone while enjoying all of the delicious food. We took a family picture so here it is...

Here is a fun goofy picture...

My family is one of the greatest blessings that I have. I loved spending Thanksgiving holiday with them. I have so much to be thankful for, but my greatest blessing is my knowledge of my Savior, Jesus Christ and His Gospel. I know that He lives and I know that the Atonement is real. I know that Heavenly Father lives and that He loves us. I am grateful to be a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I know that it's true. It has blessed my life in so many ways!

Over the last few months I have been part of the EVMCO choir. It has been an incredible experience. We have been working hard to prepare for our upcoming Christmas concert on December 10th. It is going to be at the Mesa Arts Center. Tickets are for sell at www.mesaartscenter.com It is going to be an incredible concert filled with uplifting and beautiful Christmas music. Buy your tickets now...you'll be glad that you did! :) If you would like more information about the choir the website is www.evmco.org Starting in January they are looking for more talented singers to join. There is also a Sunbeam choir, Youth choir, etc. The directors are very talented and this is not just another choir! Come hear us sing or join us...it's amazing! :)

Funny Student-isms

I have really enjoyed this year so far with the students in my class. They are great kids and I find myself laughing often. Over the last few weeks there have been a few things that have been pretty funny! Here are the top three that I remember...

1. Since the students' first language is Spanish they often will directly translate things. One day one girl said, "Ms. Pearce, my front (forehead) is hot!" I had to chuckle with that one. :)

2. A boy in my class said, "Ms. Pearce I need to tighten my seat belt (belt)!" Ha ha...it took me a minute to figure out what he was talking about.

3. Most recently I was we were discussing singular and plural nouns. I was having the students choose which words represented only one. One of the options to choose from was the word sun. Of course that was one of the answers. While we were discussing it the conversation went as follows...

Teacher: "If you look outside do you see more than one sun?

Students: "No...there is only one."

Teacher: "Okay...the only time that you will see the word sun where it represents more than one is when you are talking about the Phoenix Suns."

Student: "Oh, do they have a lot of suns over there."

Teacher: "(laughing out loud) Oh no...that is a basketball team. There is only one sun in the sky!" HA HA HA

It was such a funny moment for me. All of my students started to laugh with me. Having moments like that keeps me going. I love to laugh!!!

Reflections of Christ...

A few months ago I had the chance to participate in the recording of the back-up choir for "Another Testament of Jesus Christ" which is the sequel to "Reflections of Christ" that came out awhile ago. It is a slide show of pictures taken in Honduras to represent Christ coming to the Americas. It comes from The Book of Mormon and testifies that Christ did come and that He lives. A friend and I went to a recording studio with about 6 other women and we recorded the soprano and alto part. We recorded each part 3 times so that Jason Barney (owner of the recording studio) could stack it and make it sound like a full choir. It was an incredible experience and I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to participate in something like this. Here is a glimpse of the slide show. Take a look....

The exhibit will be on display in the Gilbert Stake Center this coming Thursday night at the Val Vista Stake Center. It will also be in the Joseph Smith Building during Conference this year (they may not be able to play the music at that time, but the slide show will be shown and it is powerful)!

I hope you all will take a minute to check out the slide show. It renewed my testimony of my Savior Jesus Christ. I know that He lives. I know that Christ came to the America's after he was resurrected. I know that The Book of Mormon is true. I know that the Atonement is real and that Christ is the way, the truth, and the life. I know it is through Him that we can all return to live with God one day. I love my Savior and I am so grateful for the knowledge I have and more importantly the relationship that I have with Him. He is my best friend!

Recent Events...

School has begun and it's quite overwhelming. I am teaching 2/3 combined ELD (English Language Development) this year. I have one student that does not know any English and a there is a wide range of academic ability amongst the other students. They are wonderful students and I adore them already so that makes it more bearable. But, figuring out what I am supposed to teach and how to teach 20 intensive students is going to be challenging. I tell myself everyday, "I can do hard things!" I am at an amazing school with tons of support which has been a blessing. I think that going through the RIF experience and getting to where I am now was a blessing in disguise...I know I am supposed to be at this school!

Another change is my calling. I have been a ward missionary for the last year and I L-O-V-E loved it! But, I was released on Sunday and I am now the ward choir director. I was sad for the change. So, it should be an interesting new calling. I am praying for the Lord's guidance on how to fulfill my calling!

I continue to learn how important it is to put the Lord first in my life! I have had a lot put on my plate recently and through the Atonement I have felt the peace and guidance I need to get through it. I am so grateful for the gospel and the happiness it brings me. I know God lives and I know the church is true! I am so blessed!!!!

It's that time of year again...

I go back to work this week (Of course with teaching I have already unofficially started...it takes FOREVER to prepare a classroom). I can't believe the summer is already over, but I am actually excited for the year to begin. I have felt so welcome at my new school and that has been so nice. I am excited to decorate my classroom and prepare for the kiddos (My classroom theme is the ocean. My brother-in-law Jared and my sister Katie have b een helping me by drawing some awesome stuff. They are so talented!). I am looking forward to teaching older kids, but nervous for the program I'm teaching. I am teaching 2/3 combined ELD (English Language Development). All the students in my class will speak Spanish and I will be expected to teach 4 hours of English language development every day! I think I would feel better about it if I knew what I really had to do, but I don't! So, it is going to be a year of trial and error and hopefully lots of successes! But, I am so grateful I have a job and I feel lucky to be at the school I am at. Ready or not hear it comes...

Trip to the "Big Apple"---New York!

A week ago I had the chance to go to New York with my sister. It was an amazing trip...one of the best! I loved it! I had such a blast and we kept ourselves busy with lots of adventures. I am so grateful to her for buying me an airplane ticket for my birthday to go. It was the most generous and perfect gift...I'm so grateful for it! Did I say I had a blast? :)

Katie (my sister) and I flew into New York City and took a bus to my friend Linda and her husband's place in Washington Heights.

A picture of Linda and I...

In NYC my sister and I had fun doing a variety of things...
*Took the Staten Island Ferry across to see the Statue of Liberty (got lost on the way, but we made it! :))

*Shopped in China Town (this little street vendor had pass along cards in his windows...it was awesome! There was one with a picture of Christ and one with a picture of the Salt Lake Temple).

*Walked Brooklyn Bridge

*Walked around Times Square

*Went to see the Manhattan NYC Temple

*Went to the "Top of the Rock"
*Went to the Natural History Museum
*Watched street dancers (one of the little kids was like 4 years old)
*Walked through Central Park
After the New York City adventures my sister and I took a train to Albany. While we were in Albany we stayed with a family from my mission--the McGreevy Family! I taught their son Ryan while I was there and have kept in contact with them since then. They are like a second family to me...I love them! Patsy McGreevy picked us up from the train and we went and visited a lady we taught, Diane Clancy. She was baptized while I was in the mission and she is doing well still. She is great and I am so glad I was able to see her. While we were in Albany the adventures included...
*Having pizza from "I Love NY Pizza"
*Taking a trip to Saratoga Springs with Ryan

*Taking a trip to Palmyra to see all of the church sights and the Hill Cumorah Pageant
Here are some pictures that were taken in the Sacred Grove

*Went to the NY State Museum

There were so many fun things we did and so many great memories created! This was one trip that I will never forget. I am so glad I was able to go with Katie and spend time with so many people that I love. I was able to go to the Albany Branch picnic and to church there where I saw many of the members I knew while I was there. It was a rewarding trip! It was especially awesome spending time with the McGreevy's. I'm so grateful I had the chance to serve a mission in NY! There are people there that have touched my heart for forever. I love the Gospel and how it truly helps all of us come closer to Christ! I know that it is true. What a great trip...thanks to Katie! I love you sister!
